Geistlich Bio-Oss® is a well-established bone substitute material used in regenerative dental procedures. It is a deproteinized bovine bone mineral with a mineral structure comparable to natural human bone mineral.
The large granules measuring 1–2 mm are particularly intended for larger bone augmentations. Compared with smaller granules, the larger particles provide more space between individual granules, allowing room for ingrowing bone over larger distances.
The material can be mixed with blood from the defect site or saline solution. Its particles adhere well to one another and can be adapted to the defect site. Geistlich recommends avoiding excessive compression so that sufficient space remains for new bone ingrowth.
